We are regularly asked how long will it take to groom my dog? It obviously does depend on what your dog is having done however some customers are surprised to hear that a full groom on their Cockerpoo generally takes 2 hours. In fact on average most full grooms will take 1.5 hours-2.5 hours more in larger breeds or if they are matted. I will explain why.
When you arrive at the salon we will always have a chat to see how you would like your dog groomed. If you have been with us before we will need to fill out your dog’s details, we will ask questions like, who is your dog’s veterinary surgery?
Have they any medical conditions? If so are they on any medication and what is the name of the medication (s) ? If they have been to us before we will check if there has been any changes and if you would like their groom to be the same as last time or if there is something different you would like us to do.
After we have had a chat your dog will be taken into the grooming room and popped into the bath. Your dog will be showered first then shampooed and rinsed this is usually repeated twice. We may at this point then condition the dogs coat if required. Any excess water is then taken off the coat using a Shammy.
Your dog is then placed onto a grooming and dried, we have a high powered blaster and small hand dryers. As we dry them we will be constantly brushing and combing and removing any knots that are in the coat Curly coat breeds generally take longer to dry and we “fluff dry” them.
This helps to straighten the coat to enable a more even cut. If your dog is being clipped we will then clip them including a hygiene clip (around the bum and genital area. Its then time for scissoring, under each foot is scissored to remove hair around your dog’s pads and in between their toes, each leg is scissored, tail, their skirt (if they are having one), head and face. Eyes are also wiped and any build up is removed.
Each of your dog’s nails are checked and cut. At this point if you have asked we may then carry out additional treatments including teeth clean, anal glands and ear plucking. Your dog will then be checked over and sprayed with perfume.
Another member of staff will then check then again and another spray of perfume before their lead and collar is popped on with an added bow. We then call you to collect you pooch to come and collect them.
