Knowing how much exercise that your puppy needs is a question we get asked a lot.  Once your puppy has had their injections your first instinct is to get them outside to explore and run free.  Seeing your dog bound about outdoors is a very satisfying feeling and felt by all dog owners.

However, there are points to consider when taking them out in the early stages.  Remember that their limbs and bones are still developing, so taking a young puppy on a long hike early on can be detrimental to their health.  The puppy will feel tired and grumpy and will definitely ache and have sore pads.  This could result in them not wanting to go on a lead again if they think they will feel the same afterwards.

As part of the early stages of puppy training, at Maisies Pet Boutique we recommend taking you puppy out for small 15 minute walks to build up their tolerance and get them used to it.  A couple of these short walks per day is ample for your dog and result in a much happier pup who will be more willing to want to go out on a lead.

When your puppy is six months old you can increase the walking time to 30 minutes and when they are a fully grown adult the world is your oyster

At Maisies, we are only too happy to help you with any questions about early puppy training and if you need any more advice please contact us.
