Resist Training with Biscuits
We are not saying that you shouldn’t offer your dog rewards or treats as this is a very effective puppy training technique. We are just advising that this isn’t the sole reason for getting your puppy to obey.
Relying on treats and biscuits to reward your puppy for obeying can be hit and miss as it depends on how hungry your puppy is. If they have just fed and you want them to do something, they may be a little more reluctant due to not wanting a treat.
One scenario would be that your puppy runs away from you and you call to offer a biscuit or treat, although on this occasion they have recently eaten and not interested in having a treat.
Train your puppy to understand words
In a addition to training routines you should train your puppy to understand real words. The main word for them to learn first would be “No”, this is followed by a positive word “Good”. These praise and correction commands should be taught when the puppy is between 2 and 3 months old.
Puppy training praise and correction words can then be increased to further their vocabulary and always expressed with the correct tone and volume. If your puppy has not learnt No or Good after the initial 2-3 months then your refrain from adding more words until they fully understand them
Bed Puppy Training
Your puppy’s bed is his own safe domain. Their cage is the first steps to house raining them correctly, Once your puppy is used to their cage it will be easier to transport them around
House Puppy Training
Your puppy will not understand where they should go to the toilet and will pretty much want to mark their territory wherever they wish. Some dogs take longer than others to house train but this begins from the minute you bring them home. You must set a place for where they should go and always move them to that space when you suspect they are about to go to the toilet or even during.
Accepting Being Handled
You must make it clear to your puppy who’s boss. You are in control at all times especially when you are grooming, walking, putting a collar on or clipping their nails
This comes back to praise and correction words that you repeat over and over again during puppy training.
