The new Microchipping law comes into effect this week that could effect up to 1.4million dogs in the UK. This Wednesday 6th April all dog owners who have not had their dogs microchipped could face a fine of up to £500 when the new law comes into effect.
As this deadline comes into force it is estimated that 1.4million of the UK’s dogs have not been registered on the National Canine Database.
In an attempt to prevent or reduce the amount abandoned dogs in the UK, every dog owner must be microchip their dogs. The microchip contains information about the dog, where it is from and it’s owner. The microchip is inserted under the skin in a painless procedure for the dog.

How does a microchip work?
A microchip no bigger than a grain of rice is placed under the skin on the back of the dogs neck. The microchip gives that dog its own unique code like a barcode. A microchip is not a GPS for your dog as many believe. A Microchip just makes it easier to identify your dog if their dog collar is missing, enabling the warden of vet to contact you via your details retrieved from the database
